Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim disclosed that hackers targeted the digital systems of Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB), demanding a ransom of USD 10 million. He emphasized the government’s refusal to yield to such threats, highlighting the importance of strengthening national cybersecurity measures.

He emphasized that the government would stand firm against the threat, highlighting the importance of enhancing the national system. This includes allocating additional resources to key agencies like the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) and Bank Negara Malaysia to bolster their capabilities.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim refrained from sharing further details about the cyberattack on Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB). During the Police Day celebration, he expressed hope that the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) would strengthen its forces and adopt a more assertive approach to tackling corruption and governance issues, resisting any external threats.

Anwar emphasized that firm and uncompromising enforcement by agencies like PDRM could significantly improve the country’s political climate within a year or two. He called for strict action against corruption, regardless of rank or influence, to foster better governance.

Moreover, KLIA has also verified that the cyberattack did not disrupt its operations. Nacsa promptly initiated an extensive investigation to understand the incident’s scope and alerted the necessary authorities, including the Civil Aviation Authority Malaysia (CAAM), which has been closely monitoring developments.

Nacsa’s CEO assured that the agency would continue to oversee the matter and collaborate with MAHB. Meanwhile, MAHB’s managing director, Datuk Mohd Izani Ghani, emphasized their commitment to ensuring uninterrupted airport operations, including flights and passenger processing. He underscored that safeguarding the security, safety, and integrity of airport systems remains their top priority.
